Making a Plan Creating a Vision Ensuring a Positive Future Arlington Parish Plan 2008 Making a Plan Creating a Vision Ensuring a Positive Future

How did we get here? The Process Last year’s Parish AGM A Steering Group – Monthly Meetings CONSULTATION Questionnaire Feedback Mini Plans

The Plan: What’s in it? We introduce why, what, how and when We profile Arlington Parish We go through our Consultation Process We give a Summary of Results (App.A) We set out Terms of Reference for the future We set out an Action Plan – 6 to 18 mths

Introducing the Plan Rural & Social Community Programme Engaging the Parish in a planning process Consultation, participation & feedback Short-term plans for Action Constituting the APP Action Group Building a community partnership

Snapshot: Parish Profile Arlington Parish – size & geography Villages – What’s in them? Roads Key businesses Small enterprises Henry and Jenny – Arlington & Upper Dicker – see main text of Plan doc. 2 minutes max.

Consultation Process Initial contact with stakeholders on ToR of SG Letters to all on electoral roll + identified businesses Questionnaire – residents and businesses 2 web sites – both public-facing Monthly open, publicised meetings Feedback meeting giving… …Further input opportunity

Summary of Results 100 returns out of over 300 distributed 63 Returns included a contact name 28 out of the 100 Returns offered to help 16 businesses, 2 Residents’ Associations Wealth of quantitative and qualitative information on 11 key areas now held in a database Pre-defined reports, plus Public access to anonymised information

Terms of Reference Constituting the APP An Action Group for implementation Building Parish partnerships FRANK – add what you need. Key points: Going forward to constituted organisation following one year participation and planning process to develop the Plan thus far; As other Parish Plans in the Sussex area – elect an Action Group to manage & implement short term plan delivery, to respond to new challenges and work with parish partners to develop new identified projects; quick run down on how, who, what is involved in the Action Group, and what responsibilities the Action Group must incorporate.

What’s Next? A Positive Future Step 1: Discuss & Adopt this AP Plan Step 2: Finalise Plan document Step 3: Create the AP Plan Action Group Step 4: Take forward & implement short-term action plans Step 5: Put on the AP Plan agenda – issues & challenges that the community can act on

Short-Term Action Plans Cuckmere Community Bus Speeding & Traffic Issues Recycling ‘Length Man’ All projects originate from Consultation Feedback & subsequent discussion

Data & Information Resources Data from APP Questionnaire responses – - enabling the Parish to argue its agreed position on future developments dictated by local, regional & national authorities An Information Resource Booklet bringing together Parish information researched by the Plan & other Parish Organisations

Cuckmere Community Bus – Berwick Station A one day week bus service from Upper Dicker via Arlington to Berwick station to access London, Brighton & Eastbourne train services at the cheap daytime rates A 3 month trial period to begin in September 2008 Price: £45 per day if just our villages, but £60 if we join with Hellingly, but could be much cheaper because of more fares

Speeding & Traffic Plan The Questionnaire Issues Locations Responsibilities The Way Forward Partnerships The Future FRANK – to remember inclusion of Arlington cos ESCC is for UD.

Recycling Kerbside recycling – collections to be introduced by WDC by 2010 Weekly refuse collection needed Recycling containers at St Bede’s entrance on North side of Michelham Priory Rd – Bins: 3 colour glass; tins; & paper

‘Length Man’ Opportunity for local employment, improved ‘look and feel’ of the Parish, increased security, social benefit to the community, but …. …initial efforts will be to maximise the existing services from statutory service providers such as WDC and ESCC – i.e. with litter and footpaths… but one to watch for in the future, if more responsibilities are devolved to the Parish, or services are cut, or problems get worse, etc….

Arlington Parish Plan Values The consultation expressed the desire for a peaceful, productive and sustainable environment What this Plan sets out to do is to minimise negative impacts and maximise positive benefits to our community by using this Plan to articulate our needs and priorities in public frameworks

Vote yes and have a Voice Have your say and be part of something that counts. That’s been our catch phrase and we hope you will all want to be part of the future of this Plan, your Plan. Thanks to everyone who has given so much of their time to create this Plan, and thank you all for being part of this process
