Background knowledge Mickey Mantle was born on October 20, 1931 in Spavinaw, Oklahoma. He died on August 13,1995 in Dallas, Texas at the age of 63. His wife was Merlyn Mantle and they had four sons named David, Danny, Mickey Jr., and Billy. Billy died in 1994 of Hodgkin’s disease. After high school Mickey Mantle went to the University of Oklahoma.

Important Dates Mickey Mantle was born on October 20, 1931. Mickey Mantle played in Major League Baseball for the New York Yankees in 1951 through 1968. In 1956 Mickey Mantle won the American League triple crown. Mickey Mantle also won Americans League Most Valuable Player three times in 1956, 1957, and 1962. Mickey Mantle retired from baseball on March 1, 1969. Mickey Mantle was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1974. Mickey Mantle died on August 13, 1995.
