The Genie E18 has 5 input pins. 3 of the input pins can be used to connect either digital or analogue input components. 2 of the input pins can only have digital input components connected. The Genie E18 has a total of 8 output pins meaning that a large number of outputs can be connected to this microcontroller. Genie Circuit Development Book

This basic circuit allows the microcontroller to be connected to a computer. The microcontroller communicates with the computer via the ST (status) pin. The compoter send the data to the microcontroller via the PR (programming) pin. Pin 4 is the reset pin. You can connect the circuit without the PTM reset switch, however the pin must be pulled high (connected to the positive power rail) via a 4.7k resistor. The diode is in place to protect the circuit from reverse polarity (the batteries being put into place the wrong way around – this can damage the microcontroller. 4k7 Resistor Genie E18 Terminal Block for 4.5v battery PTM switch Diode 22k Resistor 100k Resistor Tactile PTM Switch as a reset Genie Circuit Development Book

No other components are required and the connection is very straight forward. You can choose the piezo from the gallery, however as the component will normally have flying leads and therefore you may find it easier to simply use two pads and a strain hole. You can simply add two pads and a strain hole if you want to. Genie Circuit Development Book
