Leveled Questions

Level One Read the lines A level one question is a literal question. You can put your finger on the answer in the text. Example: What are Cinderella’s shoes made out of?

Level Two Read between the lines A level two question requires the reader to draw an inference or read between the lines in order to find the answer. Example: Why don’t Cinderella’s step sisters like her?

Level Three Read beyond the lines A level three question is a thematic question that applies to real life. Example: What does it mean to live happily ever after? You answer with both a point from the text and a point from real life.

Practice Watch the following video. http://youtu.be/-ICZRhuF0PE

Your assignment Using your independent novel, develop 1 level one question, 2 level two questions, and 1 level three question. Example: Level One: What are Cinderella’s shoes made out of? Point: Cinderella’s shoes were made of glass.
