Level I Questions: Recall Readers can point to one correct answer directly in the text. Words found in these questions include: 1. defining 5. observing 2. describing 6. naming 3. identifying 7. reciting 4. noting 8. listing

Level I Examples What were Cinderella’s slippers made out of? How did Cinderella get to the ball?

Level II Questions: Analysis and Inference Readers infer answers from what the text indirectly states, finding answers in several places in the text. Words found in these questions include: 1. analyzing 4. grouping 2. synthesizing 5.comparing/contrasting 3. inferring 6. sequencing

Level II Examples Why does Cinderella’s stepmother care whether or not she goes to the ball? Why did everything turn back to the way it was except the glass slipper? Why don’t the step sisters like Cinderella?

Level III Questions: Synthesis Go beyond the text and inquire into the value, importance and application of the information presented. Words found in these questions include: 1. evaluating 5.judging 2.applying a principle 6. speculating 3.imagining 7.predicting 4.hypothesizing

Level III Examples Why does a woman’s salvation always lie with a man? What does it mean to live happily ever after? Does good always overcome evil?
