What is a Health Walk? A short, safe, social, local, low level, volunteer led walk From 10 minutes up to 1 hour maximum Targeted at the inactive Set at a pace to suit individuals
Why Promote Walking? CHD is one of the main causes of premature death in the UK. Estimates show the main risk factors are; High Cholesterol PHYSICAL INACTIVITY Smoking High Blood pressure Across Scotland, inactivity is a major problem and Lanarkshire is no exception. Of all the 38 Community Health Partnerships in Scotland, North Lanarkshire ranked second highest in terms of the number of patients hospitalised with Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) which is one of the main causes of premature death in the UK. Estimates have shown that 37% of CHD deaths can be attributed to physical inactivity, 19% to smoking and 13% to high blood pressure. Britton, A. & McPherson, K.
