Scotland A land of mountains, lochs and legends.

Scotland is a country with an intense and living national tradition of a kind only too rare in the modern world.

Many Scottish names begin with «Mac» or «Mc» , which means «son of» Many Scottish names begin with «Mac» or «Mc» , which means «son of».So the name «McDonald» means «son of Donald».

Each clan or family name has its own tartan Each clan or family name has its own tartan. The tartan is a checked cloth used to make the kilt, Scotland`s national costume. Most people only wear their tartans for special occasions, like weddings and Burns 'Night

Robert Burns (25 January 1759 – 21 July 1796) a Scottish poet Robert Burns (25 January 1759 – 21 July 1796) a Scottish poet. He is regarded as Scotland`s national poet and his poems and songs, such as*Tam o`Shanter and *Auld Lang Syne, are popular even among people who normally read little poetry.

Scotland`s national instrument Is the bagpipes(or pipes).

Hundreds of years ago several Scottish clans started the Highland Games. Some of the sports are international:running, high jumping, long jumping.

Other events are typically Scottish : tossing the caber, throwing the hammer, putting the stone, bagpipes and dancing traditional Highland dances.

Every August and September the Edinburg military tattoo takes place.

For 90 minutes 600 people perform under flood lights.

Character. People say that Scotsmen work hard: many good doctor, engineers, writers ,inventors come from Scotland.
