Parts of a flower How plants reproduce

Carpel or Pistil The carpel or pistil is the female part of a plant. It is made up of four parts: Stigma Style Ovary Ovule The ovary are where the seeds end up.

Stamen The stamen is the male part of the flower. The stamen consists of two parts: Anther Filament Pollen grains are produced on the anther. Insects brush the anther and have pollen deposited on them.

Receptacle This is what attaches the stalk to the flower. Sometimes, it becomes the fruit.

Pedicel This is the flowers stem. Taller flowers are more likely to attract the bees attention.

Sepal This forms part of the bud. It protects the flower. All the sepals form the Calyx

Corolla Also known as the crown of petals. It is brightly coloured to attract the interest of passing insects. Ultra violet lines often guide bees further inside the petal.
