Presentation transcript:

THE CIVIL WAR (1861-1865) BY: ASA L. & DYLAN B.

Abraham Lincoln: Was the first Republican elected president during this time. After Lincoln was elected, the southern states began to leave the Union (United States). Lincoln also argued that secession was illegal because the Constitution stood for the collective will of the people and could not be destroyed by the state legislation. Lincoln’s main goal during the Civil War was to preserve the Union, not to end the slavery.

EARLY BEFORE THE CIVIL WAR The CIVIL WAR stared in (1861 an ended in 1865) well the southern states seceded to form their own government. And wanted to break apart from the UNION ( United States). They where called the( Confederate states) Southern states. Abraham Lincoln did not like when the southern states kept slavery. An he declared to start the CIVIL WAR an that is when it all started.

Gatlin Gun

The Flags of the Confederate States *A Committee was formed to create a battle flag very similar to the US Flag but yet different as well. The Confederate flag represented had a big X and 13 stars that represented 13 states. It was first used in December 1861.

Women of the Civil War Florence Nightingale During the Crimean War, she and a team of nurses improved the unsanitary conditions at a British base hospital, reducing the death count by two-thirds. Her writings sparked worldwide health care reform. Thousands of women were recruited from the North and South and joined the volunteer brigades and signed up to work as nurses. They cared for the sick and injured soldiers. This was the first time in American history that women played a significant role in the war efforts.
