Goals of ela 2017 To incorporate more relevant writing into your academic lives. Participate in at least one (1) project. You will be assessed along the way to completion. These are outside of the academic requirements.
Standards to be addressed ELACC7RL2: Determine a theme or central idea analyze its development, including its relationship to the characters, setting, and plot; provide an objective summary. ELACC7RL3: Analyze elements of a story or drama interact (e.g. how setting shapes the characters or plot). Enrich and extend. ELACC7W3: Write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective technique, relevant descriptive details, and well-structured event sequences. a. Engage and orient the reader by establishing context and introducing a narrator and/or characters; organize an event sequence that unfolds naturally and logically. Expand and extend. b. Use narrative techniques, such as dialogue, pacing, description and reflection, to develop experiences, events, and/or characters. Extend and Enrich. (ELACC8W3: a.) c. Use a variety of transition words, phrases, and clauses to convey sequence, signal shifts from one time frame or setting to another, and show the relationships among experiences and events. d. Use precise words and phrases, relevant descriptive details, and sensory language to capture the action and convey experiences and events. Extend and enrich (ELACC8W3: d.) e. Provide a conclusion that follows from and reflects on the narrated experiences and events. Extend and enrich. ELACC7SL1: Engage effectively in a range of collaborative discussions (one-on-one, in groups, and teacher-led) with diverse partners on grade 7 topics, texts, and issues, building on others’ ideas and expressing their own clearly. ELACC7SL4: Present claims and findings, emphasizing salient points in a focused, coherent manner with pertinent descriptions, facts, details, and examples; use appropriate eye contact, adequate volume and clear pronunciation.

6 month project BLACK HISTORY MONTH PROGRAM Looking for at least 4 groups of approx. 4-5 students Writing skits based on #IamaConquerer Skits can be no longer than 10-15 minutes. (skits should start negative, but end positive – how we are going to conquer…) (think about all the injustices that have happened in the past year, ie..police brutality, gang violence, racial profiling) Groups will either perform or engage other students in this class, 7th grade, 6th grade and 8th grade. Props, supplies will have to be made or purchased.

Students can enter on their own or have a parent or teacher make their entry. All entries must be in English and be the original work of the student. Open to students in grades K-12. You can write on any appropriate subject (No pro-violence, pro drugs, etc.) Poems cannot be over 21 lines of text (blank lines between stanzas are not counted). Do not double-space your entry. Be sure to use proper capitalization.

Students can enter on their own or have a parent or teacher make their entry. All entries must be in English and be the original work of the student. Open to students in grades 4-12. You can write on any appropriate subject (No pro-violence, pro drugs, etc.) Essays should be between 100 and 250 words (words such as "a", "an" or "the" are not counted). However, essays should not be over 300 words. Essays must be non-fiction (no short stories or essays written as if you are a historical figure). Do not double-space your entry. Be sure to use proper capitalization. If you attend a detention center or adolescent treatment facility, you can just put your last initial for your last name. In all other cases, please put your complete first and last name.
www.healerstrilogy.com This year we are planning several contests around all three books, where students can win prizes for themselves and their teachers. For example: (1) Students read one or more of the Healers books and then present a creative project based on the book/s' themes, etc. You can see some of our past entries on the Healers Trilogy Facebook and Youtube pages. (2) We are planning a "Literary Scavenger Hunt", where readers must find clues within the books to win prizes. (*TBA)* (3) There is an "Act of Kindness" contest to encourage the widest chain-reaction of kindness. (4) Our Facebook page also has an ongoing "Healer of the Week" contest that anyone can enter.
Reflections 2016-2017 Theme: What is Your Story? Reflections Program-Introduction The Reflections Arts Recognition Program is a national arts recognition and achievement program for students. Since 1969, over 10 million students across the nation have taken part in this popular PTA program. The excitement and enthusiasm that the program generates for students, parents, schools and communities is unmatched with the majority of Georgia PTAs participating in the program at all PTA levels. That’s why the Reflections Program provides an excellent opportunity for students of all ages to: Unleash their creative talents and be inspired Express themselves imaginatively in their artwork Experience the joy and fun of making art Tap into critical thinking skills to create art inspired by the annual theme Receive positive recognition for their original works of art
