Hampton by Hilton Saint-Petersburg ExpoForum. Our History In the immediate vicinity of the hotel there is a completely restored and functioning Church of the Smolensk, Icon of the Mother of God. The first reference to the original Church in the “village on Polkole” refers back to year 1500, and was destroyed, in the 17th century in the years of Swedish dominion. In the location of the original Church, originally made of wood, was built the new one in stone, 80 years after St. Petersburg was founded by Peter the Great and was built by architect Giacomo Quarenghi on state funds allocated by the Empress Catherine II. The Church was solemnly consecrated in 1785. This second rendition of the Church was again completely destroyed in the years of The great Patriotic war during the counter-offensive of the Soviet troops. In the summer of 2009 in connection with plans to create the Convention and Exhibition center the "ExpoForum", a project to reconstruct the temple was agreed. On September 14, 2011 the first stone in the foundation of the Church was laid.
