85th Legislative Session Texas Legislature began its biennial session on January 10th, 2017 and ended on May 29th, 2017. Special Session begins today, July 18th, 2017. The Legislature considered nearly 7,000 substantive bills and resolutions, but passed only 18% during the 140 day session.

85th Legislative Session – Higher Education SB 1091  - Relating to limitations on courses that may be offered for dual credit by school districts and public institutions of higher education.  Effective immediately. SB 2082  - Relating to the work-study student mentorship program administered by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. Effective immediately. HB 2223 - Relating to developmental coursework offered by public institutions of higher education under the Texas Success Initiative. Effective Immediately.

85th Legislative Session – Higher Education SB 537 - Relating to requiring the disclosure of special course fees at public institutions of higher education. Effective Immediately. SB 1782 - Relating to the elimination of certain formula funding and dropped course restrictions for returning adult students at public institutions of higher education and to the tuition rate that may be charged to those students for certain excessive undergraduate hours. SB 2118 -  Relating to authorization by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board for certain public junior colleges to offer baccalaureate degree programs. SB 1813 - Relating to the adoption of common admission application forms for institutions of higher education.

85th Legislative Session – Higher Education HB 2895 - Relating to the requirement that certain public institutions of higher education post mental health resources on the institution's Internet website. SB 802 - Relating to a study and report regarding best practices in the transfer of course credit between public institutions of higher education.
