Contents of Presentation Introduction Management Structure Action Items of the Implementation Review Overview of the ASPOC Data Products Software Development Data Delivery Schedule Status of the Data Products Provision Products Delivered Documentation Summary

Management All tasks carried out at a single institution: Space Research Institute Austrian Academy of Sciences Schmiedlstrasse 6 8042 Graz, Austria Persons involved: Name Main Function Klaus Torkar Project lead, coordination, documentation Harald Jeszenszky Software development, testing, data production, documentation Gunter Laky System management Manfred Stachel Data production support

Action Items from Implementation Review none

total current (constant) Data Products - 1 IONC: Ion beam current with 0.5 s time resolution IONS: Ion current snapshot, 0.033 s time resolution 8.25 s every 128.8 s - to check for any current fluctuations outgoing ion beam ASPOC normally operates with constant total current Fluctuations of the outgoing ion beam may occur extractor current leakage current total current (constant)

outgoing ion beam current Data Products - 2 Example for small variations of the outgoing beam current outgoing ion beam current "total" current

outgoing ion beam current Data Products - 3 Example for larger variations of the outgoing beam current outgoing ion beam current "total" current

Data Products - 4 Example for fast variations of the outgoing beam current, resolved by snapshot data ion beam current at 0.5s reolution ion beam current at 33ms reolution

Data Products - 5 STAT: Instrument status 5.15 s (10.3 s) time resolution Operating mode, emitter start-up status, emitter cleaning Describes reasons for deviations from the nominal beam current Emitter ID and emitter module ID Emitters show individual characteristics and performance Anomaly flags Give the reason for an anomaly, e.g. ignition failure Ion beam energy Total ion source current Heater current Heater voltage Temperature of the ion source module Raw spacecraft potential received from EFW through inter-experiment link (timing differs from EFW data product)

Data Products - 6 Command history with time stamps of the on-board execution TC execution time TC counter TC code TC mnemonic TC description TC parameter All these data are delivered as daily files

Data Products - 7 There is one Instrument Caveat file per spacecraft Contains caveats in text form and numerical quality parameters Entries are span-valid (valid between mode changes) These files are updated at each new delivery Quality parameter define the quality of the spacecraft potential control, as to be expected from the ion current and its stability. Time span: between mode changes, e.g., ion beam on or off, emitter change and resulting quality variations Mean quality during time span Minimum quality during time span Maximum quality during time span Comment (textual description associated with the average quality flag)

Software Development - Overview Production software Automated generation of data products Validation software Displays any combination of parameters and at any time scale Used to support the validation process

Software Development - Production Software Built upon Prime and Summary Parameter software New software modules added for CAA: main module and CEF handling

Software Development - Production Software The ASPOC CAA data processing software is written entirely in C (following the ANSI-C standard). Implemented on a LINUX platform (Red Hat Linux 8.0) Compiler: gcc (GNU compiler collection), version 3.2 Hosted on a HP Pro Liant server The software has been validated against data sets with various performances of the ion emitters, in order to optimise the algorithm to calculate the quality flag.

Software Development - Validation Software This software (written in IDL) is used to support the validation of the CAA ASPOC data products, and to update the instrument caveat files. Main window of the validation tool:

Software Development - Validation Software The validation software is capable of plotting selected parameters of the ASPOC CEF daily data files Inputs either CEF or gzipped CEF (.cef or .cef.gz). Allows to zoom into areas of special interest Effectively any parameter present in the data set may be displayed

Data Delivery Schedule Month Task(s) May 2006 Validation of the ASPOC data products for the 1st half of year 2003. Jun 2006 Processing of the ASPOC data products for the 2nd half of year 2003.
