New York State Mandate in Physical Education ….All secondary pupils shall have the opportunity for regular physical education, but not less than three times per week in one semester and two times per week in the other semester, taught by a certified physical education teacher, and all such pupils shall participate in the physical education program… Two credits of physical education in order to graduate. Each year equals .5 credit.

Attendance Policy Students are allowed to miss 7 classes per 20 weeks (4 units). All absences beyond this should be made up. It is the student’s responsibility to contact their teacher in order to set up the appointment for making up missed work. Absences can be made up, as prescribed by the teacher, with measures relevant to the missed work. The student will be considered truant from class with any undocumented absence. Students who are truant will receive a zero for that day except under extenuating circumstances. Any truancy from class will be subject to discipline proceedings as outlined by the Parent/Student Handbook. Written Tests/ Projects/ Skill Assessments will also need to be made-up. Any that are not made up within 4 weeks will be graded as a ZERO. It is the student’s responsibility to see their teacher in order to discuss a date for the make-ups. Failure to make-up missed classes could result in the loss of credit for that student in Physical Education. ALL SWIM CLASSES ARE SUBJECT TO MAKE-UPS UNLESS EXCUSED BY THE STUDENTS DOCTOR.

NEW- P.E.E.R.S. 2 Mission The mission of P.E.E.R.S.2 is to include all students in an authentic learning experience that develops positive physical, social, emotional and cognitive skills. Students with varying abilities are able to pursue a healthy and active lifestyles with empathy.

NEW- Office 365 WEB BASED LEARNING Students that cannot regularly attend Physical Education class due to a disability or illness shall receive the highest standard of Physical Education Instruction. The plan is to include a safe, legal, ethical, and responsible use of communication/collaboration technologies to deliver instruction using a school based program. The development of this new program will utilize technology and unify instruction that allows teachers to collaborate with students on the creation instructional products.

Medical Excuses All medical excuses are turned into the school nurse. Prolonged illness (2 or more consecutive days) needs to be excused by a doctor. Long Term Medical- 3 weeks or more weeks out.
