Thank you for not chewing gum  Materials: Pencil, science notebook & folder, IAES book September 28 Today’s Agenda: Bell work Crayon Rock Cycle Objective: Today we will simulate the rock cycle. Daily Question: Choose one of the 3 types of rock and describe how it is formed.

Characteristics of Rocks Igneous Sedimentary Metamorphic No grains Some have crystals that look like interlocking puzzle pieces Some have holes Uniform texture and pattern throughout rock No layers or swirls Can see grains Grains are different sizes Has layers or streaks Grains come off when you touch Lighter in weight than other rocks Has very small crystals Many colors Very hard Swirl patterns Bands of color

Melting Weathering and erosion

Rock: Solid object composed of minerals Mineral: Naturally occurring, solid, with a crystalline structure and non-living Ore:  type of rock contains sufficient mineral that have important elements that can be extracted. The ores are extracted through mining these are then refined to extract the valuable element(s).
