Welcome to the Year 2 / 3 Transition Meeting

Morning Routines Children arrive on the KS2 playground 8.45pm which is always supervised by 2/3 teachers. Children find the Year 3 lunch trolley and place their packed lunch onto it when they arrive on the playground. Whistle is blown promptly at 8.55pm Children can access school via Aberdeen Way

Afternoon Routines Parents can come onto the playground to meet their children. The children will stay with their teacher until they are collected. Children are brought out onto the playground to meet parents at the end of the day. If they have permission to leave to meet you at a different location e.g. KS1 playground, they need to be issued with a card from the office. Children will not be allowed to travel through the school to meet you.

Reading in Year 3 Children will not be issued with Reading Diaries this year as we are adapting how we teach reading skills. They will receive daily 30 minute reading lessons to continue to develop decoding and fluency skills. Comprehension skills will become a greater focus. As in KS1, there is still an expectation that every child reads at least 5 times a week at home.

Literacy in Year 3

Numeracy in Year 3 Guided Practice Reasoning and Problem Solving Fluency Apply

Communication Teachers are available each night on the playground for brief meetings. Any concerns, no matter how small, please speak to the class teacher or LKS2 Phase Leader. Notes can be sent in with your child. Contact the office ‘Text to parent’ service Website They won’t be issued with ‘home school’ log books

Extra Information P.E. kits in school at all times – labelled! They DON’T need any writing equipment or pencil cases! The pick ‘n’ mix topic homework expectations are the same as Year 2. Spellings are currently under review. Named water bottles can be kept in the classrooms

The Transition Process Year 3 teachers will visit Year 2 classes this term. Year 2 and Year 3 teachers will meet to handover all information concerning the children. In the Autumn Term, Year 2 teachers will continue to liaise with Year 3 teachers to check the children are settled and have had a happy transition. During the first half term, short brain breaks will take place in the afternoon to compensate for a lack of afternoon play. Year 2 will spend some playtimes on the KS2 playground this term.

Important Dates Tuesday 18th July: Children to meet their new teacher Open Night to visit your child’s current class and then if you wish, informally visit your child’s new classroom. Thursday 20th July: Books passed up to new teacher Old books to be sent home
