Social Computing presentation Session 5 and 6 Social Computing presentation Made by: Afshan Alishba

“Conceptual and methodological issues in social computing.”

Social Computing “Social computing is the collaborative and interactive aspect of online behavior. The term can be understood in contrast to personal computing, which describes the behavior of isolated users.”

Issues Engaging with social tools. Vapor lock between IT and the social computing initiative. Security concerns. Individual privacy. Copyright issues

Some more issues Difficulties sustaining external engagement. Struggling to survive due to unexpected success. Lack of social media among workers Needs around community management

Cloud computing Focus is on “virtualizing” resources Great progress in dynamic provisioning at hardware resource level Software/Service is still relatively statically provisioned Current cloud research focused on Improving cloud infrastructure – Virtual machines, Cloud OS etc. Semantic description of services, and even some composition work Limited research on how to use the cloud services efficiently Most steps in service negotiation, acquisition, and consumption/monitoring still require significant human intervention Difficult to manage service quality especially of composed services created by different providers

“Realizing the value of social media requires innovative computing research.”

What is social media? “Social Media is the future of communication, a countless array of internet based tools and platforms that increase and enhance the sharing of information. This new form of media makes the transfer of text, photos, audio, video, and information in general increasingly fluid among internet users. Social Media has relevance not only for regular internet users, but business as well.”

Social media site You tube Flivkr.com Wikipedia.com Facebook.com others

Analysis of using mobile features

Positive effects of social media Through these sites the student can establish contact with entrepreneurs, corporate people and can gain valuable information for them. Facilities open communication leading to enhanced information discovery and delivery. Target a wide audience, making it a useful and effective recruitment tool. Saves time and cost by facilitating faster communication.

Some more values Social media platforms enable more than friendly chatter and individual expression. They facilitate remarkably diverse and broad participation. Social media suggest that transformations are possible in health care, energy sustainability, environmental conservation, disaster response, and community safety.

Disadvantages of Social Media Credibility of online resources as rumors and misinformation spread Identity theft, online bullying, and disclosure of potentially damaging or embarrassing personal information. Cyber bullying.

“Social requirements and technical feasibility”

What is meant by social requirement? The requirement of the person according to its need. What is meant by Technical feasibility ? Technical feasibility is attainability of a system using currently existing technology. Technical feasibility takes into account whether the required technology is available or not and whether the required resources are available in terms of manpower and equipment.
