Social Media and the search for justice Session 2 Social Media and the search for justice

What do these three have in common? THIS REVOLUTION WILL BE TWEETED

SOCIAL MEDIA AROUND THE WORLD 2014 was a good year for social media. More than 500 million tweets per day More than 300 million people now using Instagram Tumblr is still signing up 120,000 users…a day! More than 2.5 billion visits per month to Pinterest More than 6 billion hours of video watched on YouTube each month Social media is everywhere.

But what does it do? Convince + Convert = CHANGE

Or another way of looking at it...... CONTENT IS FIRE, SOCIAL MEDIA IS GASOLINE - JAY BAER ....but in a good way!!

Why? “It’s because of this fundamental shift towards user-generated information that people will listen more to other people than to traditional sources.” Eric Schmidt, ex CEO Google

And then what?? Instagram Twitter Blog And??? Tumblr Like us on facebook www.facebook.com/justfaithscotland Read more on www.justfaith.org.uk/

Blogging and building a just world Blogging is relatively easy to do; if you have an opinion then you can blog! Blogs allow you to experiment with writing online, where you can moderate comments and have threaded discussions. Blogs automatically post content in reverse chronological order and create archives of old posts so they are easy to navigate, They can be easily expanded or developed through the creation of new pages. Blogs can also be kept private (i.e. only available to a small group of people), even if you’re using an external hosting service. Blogs are a great way of bringing others into a conversation; you can change minds and hearts and also have space to reflect on what is changing in you too!

Examples of blogging http://www.sciaf.org.uk/latest-news/syria-crisis.html

Examples of blogging Treehugger is a green consumer blog with a mission to bring a sustainable lifestyle to the masses. Its ethos, that a green lifestyle does not have to mean sacrifice, and its positive, upbeat feel have attracted over 1.8m unique users a month. Consistently ranked among the top 20 blogs on Technorati, Treehugger has 10 staff but also boasts 40 writers from a wide variety of backgrounds in more than 10 countries around the world.

Take the Action! Week 2 Before you build a just world, you have to know what you’re dealing with! Write a daily blog (don’t forget to link it to your Twitter and Facebook pages) on what you see in the world around you.... stop a few times a day to CONSCIOUSLY TAKE NOTICE of what is around you.... Generate CONTENT from what you see and observe..... It doesn’t have to be overtly and explicitly about justice or injustice.... Link this to the Consciousness Examen piece from Week 1. Alternatively, video your reflections and put them up on Facebook. Don’t forget to advertise your blog.... This is your parish, community, country you’re writing about and reflecting..... Others will be interested in what you have to say...... At the very least share with one another..... Don’t forget to take a couple of photos if you think it’s helpful, relevant and of course safe to do so!
