The business objective determines the strategic framework to use when selecting, implementing and operating ERP A One Degree of Freedom ERP project aims to implement a new ERP system Select an ERP system that fits the current business processes and organisational structure Implement fast and low cost while minimising the consequential changes in business processes and people organisation Follow an improvement strategy to bring the business processes and people organisation in balance with the improved ERP system In a Two Degrees of Freedom ERP and Business Processes project the objective is to change the business processes with a new ERP system First design the new business processes at a high level, then use that design to select an ERP system Take time to design and achieve consensus on the business process blueprint, then implement the new business processes and ERP system simultaneously Maintain the people, the business processes and the system to guard against unintentional degradation In a Two Degrees of Freedom ERP and People Organisation project the objective is to change the people organisation and the ERP system First design the new people organisation, then select an appropriate ERP system Capture the detail in a business process blueprint that minimises changes from the current business processes, then implement with internal, senior leadership Follow an improvement strategy immediately after stabilisation to exploit the new capabilities A Three Degrees of Freedom ERP project aims to establish a new people organisation with new ways of working on a new system Agree on a business process blueprint and then select an ERP system that will support the blueprint Implement fast; provide the budget to do so Resources and time permitting, follow an improvement strategy immediately after implementation Selection Implementation Operation Business Processes People Organisation Systems 1DF Business Processes People Organisation Systems 2DF(BP) Business Processes People Organisation Systems 2DF(PO) Business Processes People Organisation Systems 3DF
