October, 31

Halloween Halloween is traditionally celebrated on the 31 of October in English-speaking countries (the United States, Canada, Ireland).

Though the origin of the word Halloween is Christian, the holiday is commonly thought to have pagan roots. It has roots in the Celtic  festival of Samhain.

The ancient Celts believed that the border between this world and the Other World became thin on Samhain, allowing spirits to pass through.

The word Halloween comes from All-Hallows-Even ("evening"), that is, the night before All Hallows Day. The word Halloween was first used in the 16th century.

The main symbol of Halloween is a jack-o’-lantern made of a pumpkin. In traditional Celtic Halloween festivals, it was not a pumpkin, but a turnip.

Trick-or-treating is a customary celebration for children on Halloween. Children go in costume from house to house, asking for treats such as sweets or sometimes money, with the question – Trick or Treat? Halloween costumes are traditionally modeled after supernatural figures such as monsters, ghosts, skeletons, witches, and devils.

Trick or treat?

an important part of Halloween. Fortunetelling is an important part of Halloween.

Fortunetelling and storytelling about ghosts and witches are popular activities.
