Private housing and public non-housing is expected to grow in the 2017–2021 period, with an annual average rate of 0.1%. Structure plan shows over 30,000 new homes by 2021 and some 80,000 by 2030 Public non-housing sector projects in progress or in-plan include the University of Northampton’s new Waterside Campus, NCC offices, Police HQ Kettering, Rushden Retail Park, Numerous NHS/Schools projects, M1 Smart upgrade, Dirft Freight Depot (A43) and HS2 in the South of the County.
Construction Skills Northamptonshire National large infrastructure projects draining local skills economy :- Cross Rail, Hinckley Point, HS2 Proximity to London and Birmingham also impacting Brexit – migrant workers Industry demographics – ageing workforce Industry upskilling – workers need the correct qualifications to be on site Resulting in National and local skills shortages Mismatch of skills in geographical areas Higher wage costs as employers compete for a shrinking pool of workers
