Mini-Summary of the CAEN 10-12th March Meeting Lolly Pollacco

Towards the SMALL Picture Good turnout to the meeting from most groups. Although lots of time for discussion not enough audience questions & remarks. Towards the BIG Picture of the system. General well defined overview of Soft & Hard Inclusion of the PC farm in the project Needs more work on the BIG picture – almost there. InBo Inclusion of SWIM (SWIch Module) Removal of the InBo Need re-tasking of this element Towards the SMALL Picture Needs working on the ‘connections’ between the different tasks engineers & physicsts. Meetings/ Visits/… Gas Amplification Study of the GEM, Wire & MICROMEGAS for the sparking at high gain when different energy losses in the gas are experienced  GANIL, NSCL & CENBG What can we consider on the electronics? An urgent R&D not within GET is required. Study of the AGET when using wire. Can we do without introducing any changes in the PA? Resistive pads? What is needed on the electronics?  NSCL

SYSTEM AsAs AGET  what ADC? 10, 12 or 14 bits? what pulser do the physicists want? ADC transfer rates to CoBo AGET  The physicists need to confirm the final simulated values. Study of the option for the 2p-decay to have a switchable SCA. Question of filters for different current stimulus as a fn of angle of the trajectory has to be studied by the physicists. This part of the NEW simulation TASK. CoBo Have difficulties in defining the through-put of CoBo and hence it is well defined structure. Simulations are requested. The condensing of the data needs to be better defined and tests to be done. ADC transfer rates from AsAd to CoBo – defn of cable-lengths etc & electronic to go with – an example of possible problems MUTANT-BEM Multi-level trigger definition. Simulations are requested. Possibility to introduce BUTIS for the system GET-SOFT Structured Tasks are immerging between the different participating labs. Need to define the calibration tasks and the like so that the physicists can start working with this TASK.

Tasks Tasking & Re-Tasking MoU  Urgent request by most Labs Finance Some tasks need to be re-enforced to keep the required schedule eg CoBo GET-SOFT, SWIM & CoBo need to issue a detailed schedule and possible re-division of tasks New Task: need to be defined and worked on Simulation of the Physics Simulation of the amplification-electronics up to the numeric parts. New TASK: Electro-Mechanical Establishing the need of expertise & specs. Cooling, EM Immunity, Magnetic field influence, Filtering, Grounding philosophy Anal logic X-talk levels Numeric error tolerances Calibration TASK Need to define this task & work on it  Physicists & Engineers Security TASK of the system  Physicists & Engineers These elements will be revisited in the telephone meetings MoU  Urgent request by most Labs Try and have a version by May-June 2009 Finance ANR results not available yet  alternatives envisaged Scientific council (French) for IN2P3 CSTS (French) for CEA/IRFU DOE & NSF for NSCL (R&D provided by labs) JSPS for Riken & Kyoto (R&D provided by labs possible) Not too reassuring particularly for the French participants without the ANR. MoU is required Next meetings Possibly this CAEN will be followed before a year. To be decided. A Management Meeting to be planed as soon as the ANR is officially announced Might consider having a restrained meeting at GSI in April-May 2009 – tr see (Time-stamp, trigger etc)
