Floor Hockey Classroom Training Intramural sports Floor Hockey Classroom Training

General Rules Floor Hockey Games will consist of 3 periods, each 12 minutes long Teams have one time out that can be called in the last two minutes of play if the score is within 2 goals. Mercy Rule: a team leading by 7 goals in the 3rd period will automatically win. Out of bounds: The wall behind the benches and scoreboard is considered out. Basketball backboards, the track and supports are considered out.

General Rules Floor Hockey Floor Hockey is CO – RECREATIONAL only. Five players on the court maximum 2 men and 2 women plus a goalie of either gender Minimum number of players to avoid a forfeit is 4 2 men and 2 women, any of whom must be the goalie All players must wear a helmet with a full face shield. Players can bring their own or use the ones provided

Required Player Equipment Floor Hockey Required Player Equipment All players must wear a helmet with a full face shield. Players can bring their own or use the ones provided Players are recommended to bring their own hockey stick. However, participants can use Campus Recreation sticks .

Required Goalie Equipment Floor Hockey Required Goalie Equipment Goalie equipment will be provided by the Campus Rec department. Goalies may not switch during a period. Goalies may not cross center court. Offensive players may not enter the crease unless the ball is already in that area of play. Helmets must have neck protection.

Unsportsmanlike Penalties Floor Hockey Unsportsmanlike Penalties Players receiving 3 unsportsmanlike minors will be ejected from the game and the facility. Major penalties, misconduct penalties and game misconduct penalties will all result in the player’s ejection. A team accumulating 6 minor penalties during one game will automatically lose the contest as a forfeit. This does not include non-contact penalties like High Sticking

Unsportsmanlike Penalties Floor Hockey Unsportsmanlike Penalties Minor penalties will be a 2 minute penalty Minor penalties are fouls for common infractions that do not create a dangerous situation Major penalties will be a 5 minute penalty unless an ejection is warranted. Major penalties are fouls that are intentional, unsportsmanlike or create a dangerous playing environment. More severe than a minor.

Assessing Penalties Floor Hockey Players that are issued a penalty must sit in the penalty box for the allotted amount of time. When the penalty has finished, they may enter on the fly. If a goal is scored, the penalty will end.

Unsportsmanlike Penalties Floor Hockey Unsportsmanlike Penalties Penalties from the bench will be assessed to the team’s captain. This is a NON – CHECKING league. There is to be no intentional contact between the players.

High Sticking Penalties Floor Hockey High Sticking Penalties Sticks cannot be lifted above the crossbar at any time. A 2 minute minor penalty will be issued. A stick check that results in a high stick will result in a penalty against the player committing the stick check.

High Sticking Penalties Floor Hockey High Sticking Penalties A stick raised above the crossbar will be called a high-sticking penalty.

Slashing Floor Hockey Slashing: Players must attempt to play the ball with their stick Any player using their stick to slash an opponent’s body or stick will be assessed a slashing penalty.

Hooking Floor Hockey Hooking: Players may not hook or attempt to hook an opposing player with their stick.

Roughing and Checking Floor Hockey Floor Hockey is strictly NON - CONTACT Players cannot intentionally make contact with opposing players Intentionally contacting an opposing player will result in a minor, major or game misconduct penalty. The severity of the penalty will be at the judgment of the official Roughing Cross Checking

Floor Hockey Holding Players may not impede an opponent from progressing in play. Players using their hands or sticks to hold a player or player’s stick will be assessed a penalty

Floor Hockey Tripping Players using their body or stick to trip an opponent will be assessed a tripping penalty.

Interference Floor Hockey Interference will be called when a player obstructs an opponent’s movement that does not have possession or control of the ball.

Floor Hockey Hand Pass In the offensive zone, players may not pass the ball to a teammate with their hands. This is not a minor penalty, only a stoppage of play.

Delayed Penalty Call Floor Hockey Play is not blown dead until the offending team gains control of the puck or another stoppage of play occurs.

Referee Positioning Floor Hockey Officials are responsible for one half of the rink. They must move from the goal line to midline. Officials must move together in a diagonal formation to get the best view of the play. Communication is key to your success. Work as a team!

Referee Motion Floor Hockey Officials should move with the play. Fight for the best angle to view the play Do not go behind the red endlines.
