Newton’s First Law of Motion. First we need to define the word FORCE: The cause of motion (what causes objects to move) Two types of forces –Pushes –Pulls.
FYI: Sir Isaac Newton ( ) 17 th century scientist Made observations about the world. Newton’s Laws of Motion explain why objects move or don’t.
Motion and Forces:Newton’s First Law. What is a force? A force is defined as a push or a pull. You are aware of forces that cause things to move, but.

Newton’s First Law of Motion… INERTIA

If an object is in motion, it will continue moving in the same direction until a force changes its motion.

If an object is resting it will stay resting.

Inertia is an object’s resistance to a change in motion.

Some objects have more of a tendency to resist change than others.

It takes more force to change an objects motion if it has a large mass.

It takes less force to change the motion of an object with a lower mass.

Mass is the amount of matter in an object…

… and a measure of an object’s tendency to keep doing what it is doing which is called inertia. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8b-Mogqy1h4
