Jacob’s guide to lighting

Choosing a bulb There are various types of household light bulbs, some of which include: GLS LED CFL Halogen

GLS The GLS bulb has a tungsten filament. The electricity passes through the tungsten and creates heat, this makes visible and useful light. Though, this lamp is the most inefficient and has the shortest lifespan.

Halogen The halogen lamp has twice the lifespan as the GLS and has a mild efficiency increase. The halogen is an ideal outside light bulb due to the higher lumens per watts output. The process is similar to GLS for creating useful light.

CFL The CFL or compact fluorescent light bulb is similar to an arc discharge lamp. The electricity gets transformed by the ballast to stabilize the arc within the lamp. The arc is not useful light, it is plainly ultra violet light. This gets converted into useful light by the phosphor coating on the glass

LED The LED or light emitting diode is the most efficient light bulb known today by my knowledge. It lasts the longest of all light bulbs used in the house and various locations that require constant and intense light output for a long period of time.
