Grades 3-12 Reading, Mathematics, Writing, Science and Social Studies Alternate K-PREP Grades 3-12 Reading, Mathematics, Writing, Science and Social Studies

What’s New The Alternate K-PREP Science assessment will be a full scale assessment in 2016-17. Results from the assessment will be assigned a performance level of (novice, apprentice, proficient, or distinguished) and will be reported publicly. Science for the Alternate K-PREP will NOT be part of accountability for 2016-17. KDE:OAA:DAS: ko: 1/17/2017

What’s New The Learner Characteristics Inventory (LCI) will be required before scores are permitted for entry in 2016-17. Any student who will not test this year in either Window 1 or Window 2 due to medical or extraordinary circumstances should be identified in the SRD. KDE:OAA:DAS: ko: 1/17/2017

Alternate K-PREP Systems Home Page The Alternate K-PREP Systems home page include links to both the Online Training System (OTS) and the Student Registration Database (SRD). https://kaap.hdi.uky.edu/ots/ The Alternate K-PREP Systems homepage was developed at the request of school and district personnel to better serve those associated with Alternate Assessment and the issues with locating multiple web sites. The Online Training System (OTS) and Student Registration Database (SRD) can be accessed here. KDE:OAA:DAS: ko: 1/17/2017

Make-Up Tests Any student who should take a make-up test and does not have full scores will receive zeros for the missing data after June 2 unless a medical or extraordinary circumstance non-participation is approved. If a student has missed test window 1, a make-up test must be given. Please contact Kevin O’Hair and provide the following information: Reason window was missed (may include new to district, late placement in Alternate Assessment or medical conditions). When the school/district plans to administer the make-up test Confirmation that student has not tested in another district (KDE can assist with this information). KDE:OAA:DAS: ko: 1/17/2017

Non-Participations Non-Participations should be filed during the spring K- PREP window. File during same time frame as the K-PREP Non- Participations. Non-Participations should be filed early during the filing window; if a non-participation is denied there still may be time to complete an assessment. Select non-participation in the SRD if you plan to file for a student missing both windows or Window 2. Those missing Window 1 may complete a make-up test. Non-participations should only be filed if a student has a medical condition or an extraordinary circumstance that prevents them from being assessed. KDE:OAA:DAS: ko: 1/17/2017

GRADE CONTENT AREAS TESTED 3 Reading and Mathematics 4 Reading, Mathematics, Science, Writing (Editing/Mechanics) 5 Reading, Mathematics, Social Studies, Writing (On-Demand) 6 Reading, Mathematics, Writing (On-Demand and Editing/Mechanics) 7 Reading, Mathematics, Science 8 9 Reading 10 Mathematics and Writing (On-Demand) 11 Science and Writing (On-Demand), TAR 12 Social Studies KDE:OAA:DAS: cw: 1/17/2017

Attainment Tasks Schools receive 1 binder per school/1 binder for DAC; copies can be made of the original tasks so that adaptations to the materials can occur. District (DAC) copies should be kept until end of school year in case a make-up test is required. Attainment Tasks are shipped to the district office in binders for Window 1 and loose to be admitted to the binders for Window 2. Copies can be made of the tasks upon receipt if needed for modifications to the materials. DACs are asked to keep their materials intact until the end of the year in case a make-up test is required. KDE:OAA:DAS: ko: 1/17/2017

Seating Charts for Alternate Assessment Seating charts are sent as part of the materials for assessment. They are located in the back of each binder. A chart should be completed for each window. Every school testing a student on the Alternate K-PREP should complete a seating chart and return to the BAC at the conclusion of the testing window. Copies of the seating chart for Alternate Assessment students were received with materials. They are located in the back of each school/district binder. A chart should be completed per window for each school and then returned to the BAC or DAC to keep on record. KDE:OAA:DAS: ko: 1/17/2017

Seating Charts for Alternate Assessment KDE:OAA:DAS: ko: 1/17/2017

Transition Attainment Record (TAR) Assessed at grade 11 (Alternate for ACT at grade 11). One member from the Admissions and Release Committee (ARC) or the Transition Team must be trained to complete. TAR can be downloaded or printed after the quiz has been completed. Teacher may print TAR and share with members. TAR scores are submitted online. The TAR is administered at grade 11. It is designed to meet the assessment requirements for the ACT at grade 11. The TAR has been rewritten for reading/writing and mathematics. Science was reviewed this summer and new standards were included in fall of 2015. The new standards are aligned to the KAS standards which in turn have been linked to the ACT College Readiness standards. The student interviews will remain in place this year. KDE:OAA:DAS: ko: 1/17/2017

TAR meets CCR requirements for Alternate Assessment students. Grade 12 TAR Available for Grade 12 students who did not meet benchmark in Reading or Mathematics Reading - 19 Mathematics – 16 No science assessment required at grade 12 Students completing the TAR at grade 12 should use the grade 11 TAR document for administration. Available for students at grade 12, use the grade 11 TAR document to administer the assessment. Serves in comparison to Compass or KYOTE on the general assessment. No new TAR document will be designed for grade 12. TAR meets CCR requirements for Alternate Assessment students. KDE:OAA:DAS: ko: 1/17/2017

Grade 14 TAR If a student plans to stay beyond the grade 12 assessment, he/she should be coded as grade 14. Districts should NOT assign these students a Graduation Code until they age out at 21 or they officially exit the program. Grade 14 students who have not met the benchmark for the TAR may take the assessment again to assist them in meeting the required scores for CCR readiness. Once a student completes the grade 12 assessment and remain in the district they are then coded as grade 14. If a student plans to take the TAR at grade 14 then a graduation code should not be assigned until the student reaches age 21 or exit the program. By assigning a graduation code the CCR component is then reported out and the student is no longer able to have a new score submitted. KDE:OAA:DAS: ko: 1/17/2017

TAR meets CCR requirements for Alternate Assessment students. Grade 14 TAR No science assessment required at grade 14 Students completing the TAR at grade 14 should use the grade 11 TAR document for administration. If you wish to provide the TAR at grade 14 the student(s) must first be registered in SRD by the district. (Grade 14 student names are not extracted from Infinite Campus for inclusion in the SRD.) Science is not required to be assessed on the TAR at grade 14. Only the content area where the student has not met benchmark (either reading, mathematics, or both). Available for students at grade 14, use the grade 11 TAR document to administer the assessment. Any student enrolled as grade 14 must be registered by the district in the Student Registration Database before the site can be opened for scores to be submitted. TAR meets CCR requirements for Alternate Assessment students. KDE:OAA:DAS: ko: 1/17/2017

Destroy Materials No materials ship back from district After all tasks are administered per window, materials should be returned to the DAC or BAC. District copies are kept until end of school year. DAC should (or may assign someone to) shred all Attainment Tasks that have been administered at the school level. This process should occur at the conclusion of test Windows 1 and 2. Only At School Level. After administration of the materials is complete, DACs should see that the materials have been destroyed. The DAC can choose to appoint someone to complete this task and should see that it is done after each test window. Keep your binders for upcoming assessment windows, as new tasks will be sent and binders will be used from previous window. KDE:OAA:DAS: ko: 1/17/2017

AAAF Requirements Requirements for the Alternate Assessment and Accountability Folder (AAAF) are identical to last year. AAAF Information is provided in each Alternate Assessment E-mail. District Administrators may review the contents of the AAAF as part of the monitoring process if the district so chooses. http://education.ky.gov/AA/Assessments/kprep/Pages/AltAAAF. aspx The AAAF may serve as monitoring tool for the district and will serve as the monitoring tool for KDE. A direct link to the AAAF page is provided on this page. KDE:OAA:DAS: ko: 1/17/2017
