Welcome to Back to School! Mr. Lopez 5th Grade Room 25

Mr. Lopez *Born and raised in Los Angeles *Received a BA from Cal State Fullerton *Earned an MA and Teaching Credential from Cal State Los Angeles 13th year at Camino Grove This summer I visited the Big Island of Hawaii I love spending time with family and friends. I also enjoy playing tennis, traveling, and baseball.

Homework Policy Homework will be assigned daily- 50 minutes each night 30 minutes of Reading each night –Reading logs Absences and make-up work * 1 day for every day absent Late HW will be accepted but full credit will not be given Please check student agendas on a weekly basis. They will need some guidance in planning out their week at the beginning of the school year Students should be receiving Weekly Homework as well as Daily homework. Check our Fusion Page online for links to websites and (some) files that you can download.

Grading Student work and assessments will be graded using district grading marks M- Meets Standards P- Progressing Towards Standards LP- Limited Progress Towards Standards Student work and assessments that earn a “P” or “LP” can be redone or corrected to improve their overall grade.

Common Core As a part of our transition plan, we implemented the English Language Arts Common Core Standards last school year.   This year, we will continue to implement the Math Common Core standards.   

Grade Level Standards Available Online Directions to access the standards online: - Go to district website – www.ausd.net - Click on “Curriculum Standards” on the left-hand column - Click on whichever standard it is that they wish to view Some additional pages containing common core information have been added to the standards documents this year (English Language Arts; Mathematics; and Literacy Standards for History/Social Science, Science & Technical Subjects).

5th Grade Activities Social Studies – United States History Optional Musical Instrument Program – free lessons, 30 minutes once a week (pull-out program/students are responsible for making up class work missed) Chrome Books and Google Classroom Science – Space/Weather, Body Systems, Chemistry Track Meet (in May)

Supplies Please check the last page of the Back-to-School Packet Recommended: flash drive, (5)-70 pg. Spiral Notebook, Composition Notebook, whiteboard marker and eraser by next Mon. If you would like to donate any additional items for the classroom, please refer to the “Giving Tree” on the white board and select a note with the item you would be able to donate. This is optional 

Special Events Student-Led Conferences- please remember to sign up. I will send home a reminder as we get closer to the date. Friday Morning Run – Preparation for the Physical Fitness Test in Spring- Please make sure that your child is wearing comfortable tennis shoes everyday Field Trip – TBA End of Year Promotion Party
