T1T4 FOOD CHAINS

KEY WORDS Photosynthesis: The process used by plants to produce glucose and oxygen, from water, carbon dioxide and sunlight. Law of energy: Energy can never be created nor destroyed, only transferred from one form to the other.

Photosynthesis

Light energy from the sun Carbon dioxide from the animals Oxygen from the plants Carbon dioxide from the animals Food Water from the roots

_______ Animal life processes 1. Feeding Animals need food to survive. Plants store energy in the food they produce. When animals eat the food the energy transfers to the animal. 2. Moving The energy we get from food, makes it possible for us to move.

3. Growing Plants use the energy to grow their leaves, stems, etc. Animals also use the energy to grow. 4. Sensing the environment We have 5 senses Without the energy from food we will not be able to use our senses to the best of our abilities.

5. Breathing We inhale oxygen that combines with the sugar to produce energy. 6. Excreting. Water and carbon dioxide are by- products of the body’s processes and must be excreted.

7. Reproducing Something all animals do to ensure their species do not die out. It takes place in different ways, some lay eggs and others have babies. Animals need energy for reproduction.

Producers and Consumers Lion King

Producers and Consumers Food Chain

_______ Producers and Consumers Primary consumers are animals that consume (eats) a plant. Another name for a primary consumer is a herbivore. Secondary consumers are animals that consume other animals. Another name for a secondary consumer is a carnivore.

All food chains start with a producer (a green plant). Energy flows from the sun, to the producer, to the primary consumer, then to the secondary consumer. Primary consumer Secondary consumer Sun Snake Frog Caterpillar Plant Tertiary consumer Producer

_ Homework activity 3 NS: T1T4 Act 3. (only question 2, 3 and 4)

A lion consumes (eats) other animals. Picture number Name of organism Role in the food chain Reason for your choice A Lion Secondary consumer A lion consumes (eats) other animals. B Buzzard C Snake D Trees and grass E Mongoose
