Presentation transcript:

Gratitude . Year 2 Summer 2 (2016-2017) Dear Families, this term as part of our International Primary Curriculum (IPC) we will be delving into the world of sociology, geography and history. Children will learn about the roles of professionals within our community and how this has changed over the years. They will be researching using primary and secondary sources. Our Educational Visit: We plan to visit the Gurudwara as part of our PRE learning. Linked to our IPC Topic, we will be inviting a member of the Police Service to our school to talk with the children about their role. . Year 2 Summer 2 (2016-2017) Homework: We hand out homework every Friday, to be returned to the class teacher by the following Wednesday. Children will receive an English writing homework task and maths homework task on alternate weeks this half term. Our value this term is: Gratitude Physical Education (PE) and Yoga: We have Yoga every Thursday and PE every Friday. Please make sure your child has the correct PE kit as shown on our school website and that all of the kit is clearly labeled.

English: This term children will be exposed to a number of high quality English books including Journey by Aaron Becker (wordless book) to bring out their imagination and creativity. Our young learners will consolidate the skills they have learnt throughout their Year 2 learning journey with a greater emphasis being placed on the use of possessive apostrophes, command sentences and commas to separate lists. Science: Children will build on their learning from Year 1 and develop their understanding of Plants. Our budding gardeners will have the opportunity to apply their learning in a real life context. This term, we will be exploring a number of working scientifically skills including close observations, sorting, asking and answering questions. Computing: Use technology purposefully to create, organise, store, manipulate and retrieve digital content. Understand internet contains large amounts of information. Philosophy, Religious and Ethics (PRE): Topic: Our Journey Children will explore the concept of pilgrimage within religious life. Children will explore how such journeys are related to gratitude (for example, a grateful attitude makes journeys most effective) and how these journeys are both internal (the spiritual journey within) and external (pilgrimage to a holy place). This theme connects with the trust’s motto of ‘a journey of self-discovery’ and children will also explore how their life in school reflects a spiritual journey. Maths: This term will see our children build on the fantastic progress that they have made from last term. Greater attention will be paid towards reasoning and mastery level thinking across all four operations. They will be using and applying their learning of shape, positional language and statistics via both practical and written means and making connections within all areas of maths. End of Key Stage 1 Celebration To celebrate the wonderful achievements of our young learners, as promised, we will be hosting an end of Key Stage 1 event at the Court. Your children will be developing a range of skills including acting, expression, singing and being in role. Children will also be leading on fund raising initiatives for the event which will expose them to entrepreneurial experiences such as raising money, marketing their own event and selling tickets for the big day. Details to be confirmed!!!!
