What can you expect from & to do On your course……

OVERVIEW This highly competitive course provides you with the skills you need to start a career in photography, or a related area within the creative industries. This is a practice-based course with projects both in the studio and on location. Alongside technical skills, you are encouraged to work on self-reflection and evaluation through class feedback sessions. You will have an opportunity to work independently on self-initiated projects and to develop your own photographic ideas and briefs. You will have the opportunity to work on client lead briefs that require a determined output With a broad range of experienced staff on hand and industry standard facilities, this course is an excellent opportunity for those with a keen interest in photography, who want to develop that interest through full time study. You will continually update your photographic portfolio showcasing your most recent work.

What Will I Study? How Will I Be Assessed? To pass this course your work is internally assessed at regular intervals and then externally examined and moderated. The focus is on you as a learner and developing photographer/designer There are a range of assessment methods/ feedback methods 2 main types of hand in methods ‘physical’ and ‘digital’ it is crucial that you adhere to them.

How Will This Course Be Delivered? The course is delivered through various assignments that cover 240 credits over 2 years these will taught through practical demonstrations, workshops and lectures. What Qualifications Will I Get? HND Diploma in Art & Design: Photography

Where Will This Course Lead? Studying a HND in Photography will immerse you in to an intricate and detailed insight of a photography studio, run by tutors with industry experience. You will study a range of photographic techniques, materials and technology, which includes both digital and darkroom, location photography, studio practice, photography theories, as well as the business around freelancing. Our HND will set you up to progress on to a degree within photography at university an work within the commercial or fine Art industry.

What Can I Do After This Course? This course can lead you on to careers in press photography, advertising photography, exhibition work, editorial/commercial photography/freelance and teaching with further study including a top up degree with an Higher Education Institute.

What Else Do I Need To Know? A manual 35mm SLR film camera and DSLR is a requirement of the course. If you have a Learning support Need or Disability please let us know there may be additional support you can get. You may need to purchase relevant photographic materials and equipment, as well as a number of books that we will identified in the equipment list/reading list/Handbook. There maybe a variety of compulsory/optional visits, including day and overnight visits to London and the UK/abroad for relevant exhibitions and photographing on location. During the course you will be given the opportunity to go on optional external visits to galleries and exhibitions suitable for your area of study. These visits will incur additional costs.

Context In this context relates to the level of intellectual analysis, critical evaluation and understanding of the broader context within which the extended project is situated, likely to be evidenced in project proposals, personal statements, personal reflective journals, images, notebooks, recordings, artefacts and through other practical photographic related outcomes.

Research In this context relates to the ability to select, edit, interpret and respond to relevant material in support of lines of enquiry, and the level of initiative, commitment, personal responsibility and resourcefulness demonstrated in developing and progressing identified goals, likely to be evidenced in research journals, notebooks, personalised collections of edited research material, recordings, artefacts and through other practical photographic related outcomes.

Problem solving In this context relates to the level of self-direction, personal initiative and commitment necessary to progress ideas and find solutions, and the practical, theoretical and technical comprehension, appreciation, knowledge and proficiency necessary to achieve identified goals, likely to be evidenced in personal reflective journals, images, notebooks, recordings, artefacts and through other practical media related outcomes.

Planning and production In this context refers to the ability to plan and organise work within a given timeframe and the efficient production of outcomes both individually and collaboratively, likely to be evidenced in personal reflective journals, images, notebooks, recordings, artefacts and through other practical media related outcomes.

Practical skills In this context relates to the ability to use practical and technical skills and knowledge to explore, adapt and effectively communicate ideas in the realisation of identified goals, likely to be evidenced in personal reflective journals, images, notebooks and through other practical photographic related outcomes.
