NSTC Committee on STEM Education Mandate, Process, and Goals America COMPETES Reauthorization Act of 2010 Create a 5-year strategic plan Inventory of Federal STEM education Specifically calls for information related programs that served groups underrepresented in STEM Improved awareness, coordination, effectiveness, and efficiency NSTC Committee of STEM Education Representatives from 11 Federal Agencies Strategic plan and inventory working groups began meeting in April Inventory will be released this Fall Strategic plan will be released with the FY2013 Presidents Budget 2

Federal STEM Education Inventory General Findings $1.1 billion primarily targeted underrepresented groups Hierarchical agglomerate clustering technique = All 252 investments are unique Many gaps: 5 trillion-trillion-trillion (5 x 1036) possible response patterns 4
