OBJECTIVES Managing worksheet content Data and Content formatting Copying, cutting and pasting content Cell auto fill Data and Content formatting Cells Columns and Rows Auto formatting Fundamentals of formulas Types of formulas Creating and editing formulas Auto sum

Managing worksheet content Copy, Move and Paste content/Data Copy feature – Used to copy data from one area of worksheet to another area in the same or another worksheet. Select a cell or range of cells and then use the following ways to copy: Ribbon Clipboard copy icon Shortcut Ctrl + C Mini toolbar

MINI TOOLBAR

Managing worksheet content (Cont..) Move or Cut feature– Removes data from a worksheet. Select a cell or range of cells and then use either one of the following to move data: Ribbon Clipboard copy icon Shortcut Ctrl + X Mini toolbar

Managing worksheet content (Cont..) Paste feature – Places data copied or cut on another worksheet area . Select a cell or range of cells and then use either one of the following to paste data: Ribbon Clipboard copy icon Shortcut Ctrl + V Mini toolbar

Managing worksheet content (Cont..) Auto fill feature: Automatic filling of data that follows a certain pattern in selected cells Uses the fill handle . Once data has been automatically filled an auto fill option button is displayed on the right corner of the last selected cells. There some preset series that are used with a fill handle i.e. Months

Data and Content formatting Cells Fonts and Text formatting Found on Home tab, under font Category Use font styles i.e. Bold, Italic, Underline. Font Size Font Color Borders and shading Found on Home Tab, under font Category Borders use borders icon Shading use fill color Text alignment Found on Home Tab, under Alignment Category Categorized into: Top, middle, bottom, left, right and center. Wrap text: This will Merge cells Format painter

Data and Content formatting (Cont….) Rows and Columns Adjusting width and height Auto-fitting columns and rows Inserting and deleting columns and rows Freezing and unfreezing columns and rows

FORMULAS An equation that calculates a new value from values currently in a worksheet. Three types: Text based: uses operators like & Numeric based uses operators like +,- Follows the BODMAS rule. Logical based uses comparison operators like > < >= signs

FORMULAS (Cont...) Creating and Editing formulas A formula starts with an = sign Use a formula bar or cell to create or edit a formula Made up of elements: Reference: Cell or range used in the formula Operators: Symbols that specify the calculation to be performed i.e. +, -, /, * Constants: Number or text that do not change Functions: Predefined formula An example = A1+A3, =A1&A2

FORMULAS (Cont...) Auto sum feature Is a shortcut provided for using the SUM function. AutoSUM's rules for selecting a range The order that AutoSUM follows in suggesting a range of data for the function is: The uninterrupted group of cells containing data above the active cell. The uninterrupted group of cells containing data to the left of the active cell. If there is no data in the cells above or to the left, AutoSUM doesn't select a range, but waits for you to do so.

FUNCTIONS FUNDAMENTALS A Function is a predefined formula. Like a formula a function starts with an equal sign (=). Syntax: = ‘function name’ followed by arguments.
