HRT Faculty Advisor MyPlanner and IAP Training
What is MyPlanner New planning tool for students. Currently available for students through Bronco Direct. Students will use MyPlanner to create IAP.
What is an IAP? IAP is an Individualized Academic Plan. Only students who are within 0-60 units from 180 units are required to submit an IAP currently. Needs to be approved by their Faculty Advisor or Student Advising Coordinator.
How MyPlanner and IAP works from both the student’s and Faculty Advisor View https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1nm9uLE775Y&index =2&list=PLL7kTMZvOuoakHlb1dhBGbfZQYp6TxFLz HRT Faculty Advisors will not be expected to add the courses to a student’s IAP. Just mention the missing courses in the “Comments” section and reject the IAP. Faculty advisors will only be responsible for approving, rejecting, and commenting on IAPs.
IAP Process
It is not a hold!
Steps to Approve/Reject an IAP Check grades and course repeats. Use Course History, to verify that a student do not have an “I,” “RD,” or “RP” grade and student did not repeat a course in which they received a “D-” or higher grade. Use the DPR, IAP, and Checklist of Required Courses for the HRT major to make sure all courses are accounted for. Check to make sure pre-requisite courses are listed in the right order (e.g. HRT 276 listed before HRT 281/L) Use IAP and unofficial transcript to make sure the student will have at least 180 units in order to graduate. If all of the above are complete, then approve the IAP.
Forms for Approval Process IAP Approval Checklist Checklist of Required Courses for the HRT Major
STEP #1: Check grades and course repeats. You access this record by going to the same drop down menu as the DPR.
Course History
Looking for Repeated Courses Repeated courses will be listed consecutively. If a student has an “I,” “RP,” or “RD,” grade, stop your review and notify the Student Advising Coordinator. He will finish the review. If a student repeated a course that was a “D-” or higher, stop your review and notify the Student Advising Coordinator (James) of the student. He will finish the review.
Appropriate Repeats If first attempt of a course is an “F,” “IC,” “W,” “WU,” or “WX” then continue with the review.
If a student repeated the same course more than once… Same rules apply, if even one of the courses repeated has a “D-” or higher then stop your review and notify the Student Advising Coordinator. YES! NO! The above is an example of a repeat that is okay, as all of the previous attempts were all “F” grades. The above is an example of a repeat that needs to be brought to the Student Advising Coordinator’s attention.
STEP #2: Use DPR, IAP, and Checklist of Required Courses for HRT Major to make sure all courses are accounted for and pre-requisite courses are listed in the right order. Pull up student’s DPR. Either highlight or put a check next to courses that the student has completed. Either highlight (using a different color) or put “IP” (In progress) next to courses student is currently in progress of taking (yellow diamond). Next, look at student’s IAP and check off courses that they listed on there. If anything is missing on the checklist, make a note on the “Comments” section of my planner and reject the IAP. Check to make sure pre-requisite courses are listed in the right order (e.g. HRT 276 listed before HRT 281/L) If everything is accounted for and in the right order, go to next step.
Checklist of Required Courses for HRT Major
Step # 3: Use IAP and Unofficial Transcript to determine prospective units Add total prospective units from IAP with the overall earned units from the unofficial transcript. If the above total is less than 180 units, add this to the “Comments” section and “reject” the IAP. If the above total is at 180 units or more and everything is fine with Step #1 & Step #2, go ahead and “accept” the IAP.
Approve IAP If Step 1, Step 2, and Step 3 are all good to go, then go ahead and approve the IAP. If there is an issue with Step 1, contact James. If there are any issues in Step 2 or 3, then write about the deficiency in the “Comments” section of MyPlanner and reject the IAP.
Pros and Cons of MyPlanner and IAP Original IAP can be seen by easily accessed by Faculty Advisors. Right now, it needs to be pulled out of the student’s personal file. Data from IAP will help the Department be more efficient in course scheduling for future quarters. Cons: MyPlanner does not check for pre-requisites. MyPlanner does not account for total units on a plan.
