Who was he ? Born in York Member of small group of English Catholics Fought in Eight Years' War for Catholic Spain against Protestant Dutch Reformers

Gunpowder plot The group led by Robert Catesby, planned to assassinate protestant King James. Conspirators purchased lease of a room beneath the House of Lords – the gunpowder was stored here. An anonymous note was received by the authorities, prompting a search to be carried out. Fawkes was discovered in gunpowder room.
