What is imperialism? The policy in which stronger nations extend their political, cultural or military control over weaker territories

Examples Britain/India France Indochina(Vietnam) Britain/Burma Britain/Nigeria France-Myenmar France and Britain-Thailand

Who was involved? Powerful nations- Britain,France,U.S.Netherlands Colonial regions- Asia and Africa

Why? Industrial revolution gave Europeans the resources and technology to dominate other countries 1800’s European powers competed to claim; Africa, Southwest Asia, India and the Pacific Imperialists regarded each of their colonies as captive markets, sources of raw materials and cheap labor Europeans truly believed they were better
