2016 – 2017 Pre-Med AMSA Board Application Sikandar “Alex” Khan

Introduction Junior, Expected Graduation year: 2017 Psychology; Minor in Neuroscience National member of AMSA since 2013 Fun fact: Certified E.M.T. and CNA “Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on Earth”- Muhammad Ali

What traits do you possess that will Benefit the executive board? Leadership Organizational Skills Ambition Kindness Dedication Time management Personable Assertive Collaborative

Why do you want to be on the executive board? As a current board member I would like to continue advocating for a worthwhile experience for the members of AMSA. I would also like to get members more excited and intrigued about the field of medicine. I hope to have members anxiously awaiting AMSA events and meetings as well being able to expand that joy for AMSA into the community. I want to grow as a leader. I can use my skills to better a program I believe in and help others interested in the health field. Use my leadership experience to improve AMSA and better it the way the members want it.

How have you contributed to amsa? Board Member 2015-2016: Treasurer Silver Star Member 2013-2014 Gold Star Member 2014-2015 Regular attendance at meetings Training Grounds Chicago Conference 2014 AMSA National Convention Conference 2015 AMSA Fall Conference 2015- New York “Humanity at the Heart of Healthcare” attendee Pre-Med Dinner Committee and attended it Suture clinic Helped coordinate Doctors and residents to come speak at a meeting. Relay For Life Polar Plunge Raised money through Kaplan courses, T-Shirt sales, and fundraisers. SSF presentation for 2016-2017 Fundraising Filed AMSA as a Non-Profit

What would be your first choice of position to run for? Why? Vice President I am running for Vice President because I have leadership experience. I know how to manage AMSA’s finances and have overseen how AMSA works effectively behind the scenes by working closely with the Vice President and President. I also am able to work with a team and lead that team by example. By being treasurer, I worked closely with the President and Vice President on key issues related to AMSA such as Student Service Fee Request and dealing with a committee in order to obtain as much money as possible for the following school year. I kept the group on budget to provide quality events to members and also decided which opportunities AMSA would invest in and collaborate with.

If you’re interested in running for a second position, what would your second choice position be? Why? President I am running for President because I believe I can represent what AMSA is and stands for. I possess leadership, assertiveness, creativity, and have a firsthand experience at the role and responsibility of the President by working closely with them as the Treasurer. As President, I would be innovative and start a new event that collaborates with all Pre-Health clubs and would aim for an even better experience and welcoming environment for AMSA members.

In a few sentences, what are your strengths and weaknesses? My strengths are integrity, honesty, courage, leadership, high- stress situations, my work ethic, creativity and knowledge. My weaknesses include being too nice to people to the point of where I can’t say no and setting way too high of standards for myself.

What is your vision for the future of the organization What is your vision for the future of the organization? No matter how crazy…we want to hear it! My vision for the future of the organization is for all of Pre-Med AMSA to be closer and know each other better and for all Pre-Health students and student groups to be connected. I would also plan for more fun socials such as maybe pairing up with ‘Love Your Melon’ and coordinating an event at Masonic Children’s Hospital to support not only the Cancer patients but all of the other sick children. I want to be able to expose members to more health care related experiences. A Pre-Med AMSA intramural team would also be another great way to bond together as a group.

Public Speaking process REQUIRED On a selected date you will be called to speak with 3 AMSA members pertaining to your Board Position. Additionally, on a selected Wednesday we will ask all of our board members to give a 2 minute speech on given prompts. Additional information will be supplied after the application submission time has closed. If you can not make Wednesday meetings we will ask that you record such speech for the members to view.

Thank you from the executive board! We wanted to thank you for taking the time to fill out the executive board application. Few of the Executive Board members will not be returning, and we especially wanted to thank you for continuing to make AMSA GREAT, and making this past year a year to remember! We hope you had a blast, and we wish you the best of luck on your way to becoming a FANTASTIC member of the medical field! Brady and Autumn  Ya got games on your phone?
