Introduction What is a robber? One taking something by force. One who steals, a thief. One who defrauds or cheats (e.g., white-collar crime, cheating on taxes). One who withholds that which belongs to another. We can’t rob God according to the first define- tion, but we can by the others: Mal. 3:8-10

Will a Man Rob God? Malachi 3:8-10

Stealing His words Notice Jeremiah 23:25-32 How do we “steal His words” ? Substitution: e.g., Joseph Smith, Mary Baker Eddy, Ellen G. White, denom. pastors, some brethren: Jn. 16:13; Jude 3 Creeds & catechisms: every denomination has one: Matt. 15:8-9; Gal. 1:6-9; 2 Tim. 3:16-17 Failure to warn: God demands it! Ezek. 3:17-21 Not teaching all of God’s Word: Acts 20:27; Jn. 6:68 Wresting the scripture: 2 Pet. 3:16; Rom. 1:26-27; 1 Cor. 6:9; Eph. 5:19 Will a Man Rob God?

Withholding honor to God as Creator Paul convicted Gentiles of this: Rom. 1:20- 21 Evolutionists deny their Creator: Gen. 1 & 2; Jn. 1:1-3; Col. 1:16-17; Heb. 11:3; Psa. 33:6; 102:25; 19:1 Ungodly living: Rom. 1:20-32 vs. Psa. 150:1-2, 6; 112:1 “There are only two possible explanations as to how life arose: Spontaneous generation arising to evolution or a supernatural creative act of God…There is no other possibility. Spontaneous generation was scientifically disproved 120 years ago by Louis Pasteur and others, but that just leaves us with only one other possibility…that life came as a supernatural act of creation by God, but I can’t accept that philosophy because I do not want to believe in God. Therefore, I choose to believe in that which I know is scientifically impossible, spontaneous generation leading to evolution.” “Origin, Life and Evolution” in Scientific American, 1978 Will a Man Rob God?

Withholding service to God Consider: Mal. 1:6-14 We are not our own: 1 Cor. 6:19-20 We must give ourselves entirely to Him: 2 Cor. 8:5; Heb. 2:1-3; Gal. 6:9 Grave error by misusing our talents: Eccl. 12:13- 14; Matt. 25:24-30 Can you honestly say you’re giving God your all?! 2 Cor. 13:5 Will a Man Rob God?

Withholding gratitude to God Gratitude is a rare virtue: Lk. 17:11-19; Rom. 1:21; 2 Tim. 3:1-5 We have so much to be thankful for! 1 Thess. 5:16- 18; Eph. 5:20; Phil. 4:6; Heb. 13:15 All spiritual blessings: Eph. 1:3; Psa. 100:4-5; 2 Cor. 9:15 Faithful brethren: 2 Thess. 1:3-5; Acts 20:36-38 Material blessings: Acts 14:17; Jas. 1:17 Express thankfulness always: Dan. 5:23; Psa. 107:21-22 Will a Man Rob God?

Defrauding the poor God condemns it in the case of taking advantage of employees: Mal. 3:5; Jas. 5:4 Remember: as we treat others we treat the Lord: Matt. 25:35-45 We can “defraud the poor” without being a “villainous” person: Ezek. 22:29; Prov. 22:22-23 We are “rich” in comparison with many: 1 Jn. 3:17; Heb. 13:16 Will a Man Rob God?

Withholding our means All we have belongs to God! 1 Cor. 10:26; Psa. 24:1 Wealth is “deceitful”: Mk. 4:19; Prov. 23:5; Eccl. 4:8; 5:13; 1 Tim. 6:9-10 We are stewards having charge of another’s goods: Matt. 24:45; 1 Cor. 4:2; Lk. 16:1; 2 Cor. 8:21; Matt. 6:33; 1 Chron. 29:14 We must be proportionate givers: 1 Cor. 16:2; 2 Cor. 8:12 A covetous man is very unlike Christ: 2 Cor. 8:9 Our attitudes towards the material betrays the state of our heart: Matt. 6:19-21; Lk. 21:1-4 Will a Man Rob God?

Conclusion When we rob God we fatally rob ourselves: Matt. 25:25-28 A dying millionaire sent for a preacher who read: Matt. 6:19-21; Lk. 16:19-31; 1 Tim. 6:17 He said, “Why haven’t you told me these things before?” We’ll never have that excuse.
