Meta-analysis Short Course Ligand Pharmaceuticals, La Jolla, July 20-21, 2001 The San Diego Chapter organized a one and half day short course on meta-analysis. This short course was given by Professor Ingram Olkin of Stanford University (third from right) and Dr. Joseph Lau of New England Medical Center (second from right). Both speakers are experts on this topic and had jointly taught similar short courses nationwide.

Distinguished Lecture Series Pfizer La Jolla Laboratory, February 19, 2002 After a complementary dinner provided by Pfizer, Professor George Tiao, University of Chicago, talked about “Global Atmospheric Changes: Statistical trend analyses of ozone and temperature data.” Professor Tiao presented findings of an extensive statistical analysis of ozone and temperature data over the last thirty years from networks of ground stations and from satellites. The principal objectives of the analysis are (i) to assess trends in ozone and temperature, and (ii) to compare the estimated trends with predictions obtained from large-scale chemical/dynamical models of the atmosphere. Following a short break, Professor Tiao shared his vision for ASA as one of the candidates of the President-elect of ASA.
