Superbills

History of Superbills Before the Superbill was created, billers and coders had to translate the patient chart note from medical terminology into codes, just like you experienced a few minutes ago. The creation of the Superbill allowed practitioners to "check off" common procedures performed and a space to input the patient diagnosis.

What is a Superbill? The Superbill lists of the diagnoses, procedures, and charges for a patient's visit The Superbill is then attached to the patient health record and used by the biller/coder to create the claim for reimbursement processing.

By Any Other Name The Superbill is also known as: encounter form, charge slip, or routing slip

Superbills may also contain: A checklist of managed care plans under contract and other guidelines The patient's prior balance, if any Check boxes to indicate the timing and need for a follow-up appointment to be scheduled
