Presentation transcript:

Paper Mache Animal Mount 1.1.5 Creates, Analyzes, and evaluates the element of space when producing a work of art.

Project Goals Some part of the sculpture needs to be at least ½ foot out from the wall. There should be a clearly defined flat area for the wall. At least 2 layers of Paper Mache (The project should end up solid and not squishy)

Examples

Steps http://asharperfocusblog.com/diy-tutorial-paper-mache-animal-heads/ Here is a tutorial that is similar to the in class tutorial.

Armature: Step 1 In sculpture, an armature is a framework around which the sculpture is built. This framework provides structure and stability.

Step 1 Create an armature. Using a balloon, cardboard or crumpled up newspaper, build the basic shape of your animal. Masking tape helps hold everything in place Make sure to consider where the animal should be flat to attach to the wall or a piece of wood.

Step 2 Rip up strips of newspaper/ paper towels. (cutting the strips can cause edges to stick out) Dip the newspaper into the paper mache paste (flour and water, or glue and water) Add the strips over your armature until you have a couple layers.

Step 3 Using different techniques start adding in the finer details on your sculpture. Ears, nose, eyes, hair, horns etc. Try to get these features as close as possible to how you want your sculpture to look.

Step 4 Add a final layer of book pages or paint your animal to how you prefer. Book pages Painting

Final step: Bring in a piece of wood to mount project (optional) $5 at Target

Clean up! Part of Work Ethic 10 pts a day! Paper mache is very messy, please consider wearing a paint shirt! Sponge off your table to get any extra glue. Check the floor for newspaper scraps/spills. Put away supplies and bins back where you found them. Put a piece of paper under your sculpture on the shelf and make sure it won’t get stuck to someone else’s!
