SOLOMON’S PRAYER FOR WISDOM

The Lord appeared to Solomon at Gibeon Solomon had gone to Gibeon to offer sacrifices The Temple had not yet been built – 1 Kings 3:1-2 Solomon loved God and truly wanted to honor Him – 1 Kings 3:3-4

The Lord appeared to Solomon at Gibeon There God spoke to Solomon in a dream This was no ordinary dream – 1 Kings 3:5 God said to him, ‘Ask for whatever you want me to give you’

Solomon asked the Lord for Wisdom He understood the importance of wisdom Solomon knew that he needed wisdom to be a good king! – 1 Kings 3:7-9 Solomon would later write of the value of wisdom – Proverbs 4:7

Solomon asked the Lord for Wisdom God generously gives wisdom to ALL who ask! If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God . . . – James 1:5-8 God gave Solomon great wisdom– 1 Kings 4:29-34; Matthew 12:42

Solomon’s request pleased the Lord Some things we can learn from Solomon’s request His request began with heartfelt praise – 1 Kings 3:6; Hebrews 13:15 His request was made with true humility – 1 Kings 3:7-8; James 4:6 What he requested was honorable – 1 Kings 3:9; James 4:1-4
