Solid, Liquid, and Gas, OH MY! Second grade webquest By Lynda Jones Ockerman Elementary

Introduction Calling all scientists! We need your help in the lab!  An alien from another planet has just landed they have not discovered matter on his planet. There is matter all around you. Everything on Earth is made of matter as a solid, liquid, or gas. You and your team of scientists will help him understand the properties of the three states of matter. You will learn how matter can be changed and grouped. You will research solids, liquids and gas to help him learn about our world.

Task Learn new vocabulary for the properties of solids, liquids and gas Research the different states of matter and their properties Learn how the different states of matter interact Sort matter into categories based on their properties Fill in the blanks for an interactive quiz Make a concept map for solid, liquid, and gas

Process

Process Step 1: First you will be working in teams of 3. I have already placed you in your group. You will need to decide which team member will be the reader, the recorder, or the computer specialist. Team member 1: Reader: You will read any information on the websites to your team members Team member 2: Recorder: You will write any information your team needs to complete the tasks  Team member 3: Computer Specialist: You will control the computer during tasks

Process Step 2: The Computer Specialist will click on the link below and print out the matter chart. The Recorder will go to the printer and pick it up. You are the one responsible to write everything down for your group. MATTER CHART

Process Step 3: Go to these websites and complete the activities with matter. You will watch a videos about matter and complete http://www.abcya.com/states_of_matter.htm http://archive.fossweb.com/modulesK-2/SolidsandLiquids/activities/changeit.html http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/scienceclips/ages/8_9/solid_liquids.shtml

Process Step 4: Go to this website to do a fill in the blank quiz . Work as a team and each member does their job. Print a copy when you finish http://www.teachingandlearningresources.co.uk/solidsliquids.shtml

Process Step 5: Look around your classroom and school to identify examples of matter. The Reader will look for solids. The Recorder will look for liquids, and the Computer Scientist will find gasses. Record your information in your matter chart.

Process Step 6: You will each create a concept map using your matter chart. Click the link below to go to the Text2Mind Map website to build your concept map. First, watch this video I created to help you use Text2mind maps.

Process Now, create your own Text2Mind Map about the three states of matter. Make sure you include a title, the three states of matter, and examples of the three of matter. Then download a copy and print it out. Put your name on it and turn it in! TEXT2MIND Map
