Peace and Justice Initiative All People, All Voices, All Matter.

As you prepare your fall semester calendar, please save the date for   Valencia Night at The Center for Peace at the Islamic Society of Central Florida Friday, October 12th, 5:30-8:00 PM   All students, faculty and staff are encouraged to attend. Faculty, please come with your classes to encourage attendance. The event could serve as a cultural event or an extra credit assignment when appropriate.   The evening event will include a tour of the mosque, a delicious Middle Eastern meal, and a talk about the teachings of Islam.   The event is free for everyone.   As stated on their website, the mission of the Center for Peace is not to proselytize or convert, but to educate and inform about the true message of Islam and issues that face Muslims. Palmer 1) Courses PAX 1000 PAX 1500 2) Elective Courses - Peace and Justice Studies Certification of Course Teaches the principles of nonviolence Teaches the principles of conflict transformation Teaches the history of the peace movement Teaches a reflective practice (principles) 3) Principles of Peace and Justice Pedagogy – Faculty Development Curriculum Places collaborative relationship building as central to the work Encourages a reflective practice to support meaning and purpose (mindfulness practice, emotional intelligence) Addresses conflict as a source and opportunity for growth and transformation Uses the tools of dialogue and conversation (introduces the Principles for How We Treat Each Other) Supports an inclusive community in which all voices are heard and valued; engages in the exploration of the “other” 4) Course offering in Education: Peace and Justice Pedagogy
