The What: Today we’re reviewing sentence structures and punctuation The What: Today we’re reviewing sentence structures and punctuation. Reviewing this won’t only prepare us for the exam, but help us comprehend reading better, and help us write better. The Why: EOC is just one more stepping stone to getting through college! IB Learners are Thinkers: We’re going to think deeply about how language is used apply those skills to the EOC.

INM: Take notes on the sentence types in the following video Section 3 (# ?)

Sentence type gallery walk With your cheat sheet (notes) in hand, walk around the room with a partner and identify each type of sentence posted on the wall. Write an explanation as to why it is that particular sentence. For example, you could write, “This is a complex/compound sentence since the phrase “After the movie” is a dependent clause and “we went to the store and then we went home” are two independent clauses joined together by a conjunction, and”. Let’s see who can get the most correct!

Guided Practice (20 MIN) Part I: Now with the knowledge of types of sentences in mind, let’s practice a bit! Complete Section 12 on a separate sheet of paper.

Review answers and discuss misconceptions

Independent Practice (20 min) Now that we’ve practiced types of sentences, let’s move on to looking at punctuation. We’re going to use our knowledge of independent and dependent clauses to attack Section 9 in our EOC Packets. Complete the questions on a separate sheet of paper. Answers will be submitted on clickers in 18 minutes.
