KHS Spanish Honor Society Officer Positions & Their Responsibilities

President Plan & Conduct monthly meetings/socials Set monthly meeting dates with approval from the sponsor as the sponsor has to book the LGI Plan socials: Dia de los Muertos, Cinco de Mayo Communicate with the officers to make sure every officer’s tasks are being met; assist where needed Plan a Spring Field Trip (if desired) with the guidance of the sponsor(s) and the officers Design a Spanish Honor Society t-shirt with the help and approval of the sponsor(s) and officers Purchase the t-shirts once the Treasurer has collected all of the money and the sponsors/officers have approved the design **Must be a Senior to run for President

Service Vice President Plan & execute TWO (2) service projects per year Communicate with the officers and sponsor(s) for approval of the project and for assistance Inform members with information about the project Keep a log of members’ yearly service point; inform members of their service points Make sure each member has earned at least ONE (1) service point per year in order to remain in good standing Conduct meetings in the absence of the President Communicate and assist the other officers with their roles as needed

Secretary Take meeting attendance & keep a log Make sure that each member has attended at least HALF of the meetings per year in order to remain in good standing Obtain the official list of Spanish Honor Society members from the Treasurer after yearly dues have been collected Make sure members are in good-standing throughout the year: paid yearly $5 dues, earned at least ONE service point per year, attended at least HALF of the meetings per year

Treasurer Collect yearly dues ($5) in the Fall at the September & October meetings and/or from the sponsor(s) Collect money for Senior Honor Cords in the Fall, and again in the Spring after inductions if new Senior members join Distribute Senior Honor Cords at the April/May meeting Collect National Dues ($5) from new members after the new member inductions in the Spring Collect money for Spanish Honor Society T-shirts in the Fall Assist the President in distribution of the shirts

Treasurer, contd. Keep an adequate record of all paid members & money intake Log whether a member paid by cash or check for dues, Senior Honor Cords, T- shirts, and Field Trip Communicate between members and the sponsor if there are any discrepancies in the Treasurer’s records Make a list of paid members to the Spanish Honor Society membership Assist the sponsor in collection of all money: counting the money to make sure it matches the Treasurer’s records and writing the Humble ISD deposit slip

Historian/Publicist Communicate with the officers, to determine when to send text reminders and e-mails to members as needed Create flyers about Spanish Honor Society meetings Request a daily announcement by filling out the form on the KHS website as needed for meetings or by e-mailing the announcement request to the sponsor so it can be forwarded

Inductions & Elections Officer Communicate with the officers & sponsor(s) to plan and execute new member inductions Work with the Treasurer and Secretary to collect new member information sheets & national dues in March/April

Jr. Officer: Inductions & Elections, contd. Work with the officers & sponsor(s) to plan and execute officer elections for the following year in April/May (AFTER INDUCTIONS) Hold a meeting in April, after new member inductions, to present information about the officer positions Update the Elections Information PowerPoint, if needed Determine by the Treasurer if the candidate seeking office is in good standing Create a ballot for the Elections meeting Hold a meeting in April or May after the elections meeting information to conduct elections Count the ballots with the officers either at the elections meeting or after, if you are not seeking the office of President Present the results of the election at the Cinco de Mayo/End of Year Social

KHS Spanish Honor Society Elections Information

Requirements to Seek Office Must be a member in “Good Standing” CURRENT AND NEW MEMBERS: Paid yearly $5 chapter dues AND/OR $5 National Dues (new members) CURRENT MEMBERS: Must have at least two service points 2. Must be a CURRENT MEMBER to run for President or Service Vice President 3. Must present a speech (in person) to the membership at the Elections Meeting

Eligibility to Vote Must be a member in “Good Standing” CURRENT MEMBERS: Must have at least ONE service point per year The Election Date is Friday May 13 during B block of lunch in LGI 4310
