Outline of Talk Problem Definition Introduction Problem Description Problem Justification Literature Review Conclusion References

Intelligent Transportation System Problem Definition “ To design a Data Management framework for Mobile Ad hoc Network ” with VANET as a case study Ad hoc Network Intelligent Transportation System Sensor Networks V2RSU VANET MANET V2V Data Management Issues (e.g. knowledge representation, caching, replication, service discovery)

What is Data Management? ‘Data Management’ is a set of mechanisms and procedures that are used for managing data as a ‘valuable resource’

Data Management in MANET PROBLEM ISSUES / SOLUTIONS Routing Reactive or Proactive Routing Protocols Service Discovery Centralized or Distributed directory Location Management Global Positioning System Query Processing and Optimization Profile Driven Querying, Optimization, Location Based Querying Caching Profile Driven, Cooperative, Semantic caching Replication Partial or Full Replication Naming Flooding or Name Server Transaction Management Can we satisfy all ACID requirements? Hetrogeneity Transcoding techniques Security DOS Attacks, Trust Issues

A Data Management Architecture introducing a novel cross layer service, semantic-based, QoS based discovery

Problem Justification A small amount of work has been reported in literature about a comprehensive data management framework for VANET We have not seen any single service discovery protocol for VANET that addresses all of the following: Semantics Cross layer service discovery QoS A large number of potential safety and non-safety applications [7],[8] Why Cross layer solution? more resilience, robustness [16]

Literature Review MoGATU by Filip Perich et al [1],[2],[3],[4] Service Discovery protocols IBM DEAPspace, UPnP, Konark, JINI [8], SLP [9], Dreggie [10], GSD [11] Integrating service discovery with the network layer Dante Arias et. al. [12], Noman et. al. [13] Caching (LRU, Profile Driven Caching, Cooperative Caching [15], Semantic Caching[14]) Transaction Management Filip Perich et. al. [2], NC-Transaction

Conclusion We are working on a framework for Data Management in VANET This can have a huge impact on solving traffic problems Safety Applications accident / congestion warning lane change assistance Non-Safety Applications parking lot prediction multimedia gaming
