Technology Enhancement Gail Brinkley - TAACCCT3 Nashua Community College, Nashua NH

Did you get here on a Plane, by Train or by Car?

Some of the parts in those machines were...

Manufacturing News The latest news in the Manufacturing Industry is very promising and many are expanding. There is a graying of the current workforce. Through the TAACCCT Grants we have been able to update and modernize our equipment, program and facility.

Manufacturing News In the most recent data, manufacturers contributed $2.17 trillion to the U.S. economy. There are 12.33 million manufacturing workers in the United States, accounting for 9 percent of the workforce. Over the next decade, nearly 3.5 million manufacturing jobs will likely be needed, and 2 million are expected to go unfilled due to the skills gap. from the National Association of Manufacturers Website*

Our Approach We have taken a multi-pronged approach through our grant to educate our students and address the shortage of skilled workers in several ways.

Our Approach We added 3000 square feet to our current facility and added new machines to add capacity for labs. Changed the Modality of some Courses to online/hybrid. Added more and varied Technology for easier Access.

Why Technology Enhance? The latest equipment is tech enabled and as part of a comprehensive education we must instruct the students how to interact (operate/set-up/program) with these machines.

Why Technology Enhance? We use MasterCam Programming to generate G and M Code programming The students can then run their programs on a Simulator to check for common errors before moving on to machines. All sizes of these industrial machines use the same program simulators.

Why Technology Enhance?

Why Technology Enhance?

Why Technology Enhance? Flexibility to access course material from anywhere they have Wi-Fi access.

Blackboard We are using BlackBoard as a Content management system. Putting non-lab courses online and hybridizing lab courses.

Meet Professor Howe

Tooling U within Blackboard

Why Technology Enhance? Extra resources about the project/concept are available.

GoPro Camera The GoPro camera can be used to send video to one of our large monitors. This is helpful in situations where a video is not appropriate or does not exist. Larger groups of students can easily be part of an in lab demonstration using this technology.

Why Technology Enhance?

Why Technology Enhance? The ability to review and re-enforce concepts and practice from on line resources.

Nashua Community College Videos The Micrometer is a precision Measuring Device. We will watch the video and try it.

Nashua Community College Videos Shop Safety Precision Manufacturing Tool List How to Read a Micrometer How to Grind a HSS Toolbit Indicating in a Milling Machine Vise Prototrak Lathe Startup Prototrak Lathe Shutdown Manufacturing Processes Course

Why Technology Enhance? Videos viewed in the classroom setting often facilitate discussion. Videos are all posted on Blackboard for 24/7 access. Videos can be assigned as homework or as review before students undertake the particular task. Example- The Grinding a Tool Bit video. We have found that students perform better if they watch the video and then immediately start the grinding task.
