WWI “The Great War” Vocabulary

1. Stalemate A situation during a conflict in which both sides are equally powerful and neither one will give in. X

2. Alliance A close association of nations formed to advance common interests or causes. The “Triple Entente” included Russia, France, and Great Brittan. The “Triple Alliance” included Austria-Hungry, Germany, and Italy.

3. Zimmerman Telegram A coded message intercepted by the British; the intended purpose was for the Germans to engage Mexico in war with the U.S.
