children in public care or previously adopted Admissions Published rules are used to decide which children are offered places. Rules may differ between local authorities and types of schools. Check websites in case there are any changes to the information given in LA booklets Community School Admission Criteria (summary see booklet for full details) children in public care or previously adopted children for whom a particular school is appropriate on exceptional medical grounds children with a brother or sister attending the school at the time of admission (living at the same address) children of members of staff children living nearest to the school measured as the “crow flies”

Exceptions *Chace Community and Southgate Schools – have priority zones for named roads *Enfield County has a quota system of allocation Full details are given in the “Your Guide to Secondary Schools in Enfield 2017 ” brochure Partially or Fully Selective Schools e.g The Latymer School (test dates passed), Enfield Grammar (Sport or Music), Kingsmead (performing Arts) Selective schools test children before the closing date for applications. Children need to be registered directly with the schools to be entered for the relevant selective tests/trials/auditions Schools will let parents have the results of the tests/trial/audition before the closing date for the Borough application.

What can Enfield parents expect? one local authority application to be used for all maintained schools (community, foundation, voluntary aided, free school and academy) regardless of where the school is located closing date across England for forms to be uploaded– Monday 31st October 6 choices (Hertfordshire will only accept four Hertfordshire schools – so don’t include more) equal consideration is given to each school asked for Enfield will apply on your behalf for schools outside the Borough. late applications or changes of preference can only be accepted after closing date in exceptional circumstances If your child is eligible for more than one school, the order of preference on the form will be used to decide the final offer single offer emailed to parents/carers on 1st March 2017

How to apply- ONLINE London parents can make an online application for schools in London and surrounding counties Search facility for schools and links to other relevant sites Go to Enfield’s website – www.enfield.gov.uk/admissions for further information

Apply online: It is quick and easy to do – log onto www.enfield.gov.uk/admissions and follow the instructions You will get an email confirmation that your application has been submitted correctly The online system checks that you are completing all the right sections of the application The online system is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week until midnight on the closing date You can get your results on the evening of 1 March 2017.

Making your application Make sure you tell us.. If the child is looked after or adopted If there are brothers or sisters attending any of the schools you apply for If a parent works at any of the schools listed on your form. AND Provide supporting information with your application if you are asking for medical priority Be sure that the address you use is the child’s usual place of residence. Attach details if not Ensure you include proof of address Complete any supplementary forms and send them directly to the schools Meet all the deadlines

Enfield Schools – Distance from your home is important The furthest distance the LA offered places for admission in September 2016 on national offer day was ARK John Keats - 0.625 miles Chace Community - 1.247 miles Edmonton County - 1.432 miles Heron Hall – 2.033 miles Highlands - 0.952 miles Kingsmead -1.275 miles Southgate - 2.293 miles Winchmore - 1.019 miles

Things to remember… Visit all the schools you are interested in, especially those in your local area. Talk to local parents Look at the written information, including the schools’ prospectus, pattern of admissions in previous years and also the admissions rules. Distance counts for many schools and will often be a deciding factor Be realistic- include one local school! Available September 2016

For school outside Enfield - look at that Local authority’s website for details e.g Hertfordshire Check if you need to complete a supplementary information form Complete all applications in full Naming only one school or the same school six times will not improve your chance of getting a place!

Lale our Family Support Advisor (FSA) is available to support you Dates for form filling sessions in Sunshine Room, help with internet etc Wednesday 28th September @ 11am Wednesday 5th October @ 11am Contact Lale at the Gate Office, or make an appointment
