Learning Outcomes EQ3: How is regeneration managed? Content By the end of the next two lessons we will be able to explain how local governments compete to create plans to attract a range of investors, and the problems with these plans in terms of conflict of ideas with other key players. Process You will do this by working in small groups to prepare a presentation and hand out, which will form the basis of next lesson. Key Terms Regeneration Diversification

Regeneration Strategies You are going to be working in small groups to create a PowerPoint presentation which focuses on different regeneration strategies, predominantly in Newcastle but also some national significant strategies. Success Criteria: You should prepare a presentation which lasts five minutes. You should prepare an accompanying information handout which summarises your presentation Include a section about key players You should focus on how your area has been regenerated and how it has impacted (both positively and if relevant negatively on different stakeholders.)

Groups Group 1: Sports- led regeneration using the London Olympic Park as your case study. Group 2: Retail-led regeneration plans using Eldon Square as your case study. Group 3: Culture-led regeneration using Newcastle Quayside as your case study. Group 4: Heritage –led regeneration using The Ouseburn as your case study. Group 5: Education/knowledge-led regeneration using Science City in Newcastle as your case study.

Today Tasks: Research your regeneration strategy Discuss and choose an appropriate way to present it your work Agree who is discussing what during your presentation (you should all say something) Prepare your handout. (I will print these for you if you get them to me before next lesson). Success Criteria: You should prepare a presentation which lasts five minutes. You should prepare an accompanying information handout which summarises your presentation Include a section about key players You should focus on how your area has been regenerated and how it has impacted (both positively and if relevant negatively on different stakeholders.)

Homework Ensure that your presentation and hand out is finished. You may need to use some ILC time to meet as a group to ensure this is finished and to give you some time to practice your presentations. Be ready to go as soon as you arrive next lesson.
